Adding elevation and caravan system

The latest build is (finally) up.

Some major changes:

  • Engine now accommodates "2.5D" tiles, entities can now move in elevation with all the associated consequences.
  • A caravan upgrade system has been added to the game. This is the foundations of the upgrade system for the player. Right now the system is not balanced and only the bare bone contents exist but it is enough to expand on. You can check this out by heading to any settlement, or hitting the hotkey "N" on the world map and going over to the "Caravan" tab.
  • The i686 Windows build has been replaced by a x86-64 one. Going forward this will be the default. I decided to retire the 32-bit build due to technical limitations with respect to the game engine.

A host of backend changes to have also been made, some of the major ones are:

  • Cleaned up the UI, especially the mouse over cards that appear. There are several other places where UI clean up is in order and I will be progressively ironing these out with each build.
  • Consolidated metadata and game settings into binary instead of exposing them as json, in the future I will package all game assets together using this manner.

If you are trying this prototype out on Windows and notice that the text do not fit into the text boxes please try changing the icon and text scaling in Windows to 100%. I hope to address this programmatically in the future but right now it seems that because the in-game UI is vectorized, the Windows text scaling extends into the game itself.

Next up, I plan to take some time off from code development and do some revisions to the game art. In particular, the terrain tiles. I will provide an update when I have something more substantial. Until next time.
